I photograph architecture at night because of the mood it creates with its interesting colours and tones. That’s where a camera with high dynamic range is an advantage. So Mark Galer’s reference to PetaPixel’s claim that the Sony a7V's dynamic range performance is on par with that of 100MP medium-format cameras caught my eye. In comparing the A7V with the original A9 and A1 cameras, Mark says there’s no short answer to the question, is it better, but “The A7V has better dynamic range, pre-capture, 30fps with AF tracking using AI Subject recognition, plus a four-axis multi-angle monitor.
While my rig is perfect for my current needs, it isn't ideal for bird photography. But with those statistics, it just might get me into bird photography in a serious way.
Moving to full-frame format is a bullet I have chosen not to bite! It means a new camera and a complete set of new lenses, something I’ve shied away from.
